Malakeh, a woman who has lived under the shadow of addiction and abuse since childhood, now survives on the margins of society. When she encounters a young documentary filmmaker searching for untold, deeply human stories, Malakeh begins to recount her life: a life shaped by the domination and control of her father, Shapour; a forced marriage she says he imposed on her; and years of suffering and silence. Midway through her testimony, Malakeh takes the filmmaker to a hidden room to make her story feel more immediate and real. There, she reveals a bound captive—an unknown man she claims is the husband who tormented her for years. Malakeh then corners the filmmaker with a brutal moral choice: either kill him so the “story can be over, ” or untie him and accept the risk of his return. Caught between fear and conscience, the filmmaker refuses to become a murderer and frees the man—only for the truth to surface in that moment: he is not Malakeh’s husband, but Shapour, her father. In the final act, Malakeh disappears. The closing scenes show her body in a morgue, donated—according to her will—to a medical school. The documentary ends on a bitter ambiguity: was her death a final escape, a silent confession, or an attempt at redemption? And the filmmaker, now unwillingly complicit in Malakeh’s constructed narrative, chooses not to fully resolve the truth
