An alternative audiovisual adaptation of the tragedy of Medea by Euripides, a hybrid work between theatre and music, dance and performance, cinema and video art, set in particular places in the city of Padua (Italy).

NOTICE FOR THE VIEWING: by activating the subtitles in English you have the translation of the dialogues from Italian and of the choir from Ancient Greek.

The MEDEA project was created by students from different departments of the University of Padua (Italy), inspired by an university theatre workshop that took place in 2022-23, where the famous Greek tragedy has been taken outside the traditional theatrical spaces through a traveling show.

Thus, we decided to develop a hybrid work between theatre, dance, music and video art: in addition to the famous story with Medea, Jason, Creon, and Aegeus, a performer plays all the unnamed characters in the tragedy; the choir, performed by the chamber choir of the University of Padua, sings its own verses in Ancient Greek; the prologue and epilogue include a dance performance.

Among the possible formats, the MEDEA project is conceived in two versions:
– A 25-minute short film, to be shown in cinemas and in spaces that can hold a large screen.
– A video installation consisting of 5 screens arranged in a circle, to be displayed in museum spaces and art galleries.

The main goal of this independent project is to give several young university students/artists the opportunity to find a place where they can show their abilities and especially where they can experiment together.
