RIFF 2014: THE FILMS IN COMPETITION

RIFF gets a hint of pink with a collection of women’s films at the thirteenth edition of the Rome Independent Film Festival.
Fernando Franco shows a woman in “La Herida”. Thanks to her interpretation of  “Ana-la borderline”, Alvarez won an award at the Goya Awards in 2013 and one at the Mar De Plata Film Festival. Awards also went to director Franco at the Goya Awards and at the San Sebastian Film Festival.
Joseph Israel Laban was inspired by actual events for “Nuwebe”. Krista, who becomes pregnant at only 9 years old, conquers many obstacles in the sad story of a young mother in the Philippines. The movie, strongly criticized for the amount of violence to children and the similarity to reality shown, was a finalist at Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival; this film is the premiere of the best actress of the International Film Festival, Barbara Miguel.
Love is  the thread that connects Matan Guggenheim’s movies “Paradise Cruise” and  “Tempo Girl”.
“The Girl from the Wardrobe” signals the passage of Bodo Kox from the Polish underground to mainstream cinema. It is a selection at The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, and has already won The Golden Frog at the Polish Film Competition.
In the Italian film section, these films are premiering at RIFF.
A woman is the focus of  “The Stalker”, the new work of Lucio Melillo, about love that results in a dangerous obsession.
Two comedies: Riccardo Romboli, Giulio Valli and Nico Di Lalla’s “CUT” and “Sogni Di Gloria” by Collettivo John Snellinberg.
With films about the planet, Davide Minnella and Sebastian Maulucci  bring respectively: “Ci Vorrebbe un Miracolo” and ”La Terra e il Vento”.
Igor Maltagliati participates with the noir piece “The Sweepers”.
