For the last two days of the 21st edition of RIFF – Rome Independent Film Festival, the European preview of “Escape to the Silver Globe,” which is also in the documentary section competition, will be screened at Nuovo Cinema Aquila on Thursday, November 24, at 8 p.m. The documentary goes in-depth on the unfinished saga of Andrzej Zulawski’s famed and censored science fiction film “On the Silver Globe,” which is also regarded as one of the best sci-fi movies ever. In Zulawski’s film the spirit of Polish cinema in the 1970s is recalled, and the documentary explores the aspirational dream of Polish cinema to rival American science fiction. One of the Focus on Poland events, “Escape to the Silver Globe,” was produced in collaboration with the Polish Institute of Rome, film LODZ, and the Polish Film Institute. The director will meet the public.
“Love-Lights,” a contemplation on light directed by the Portuguese Acacio de Almeida and Maria Carré, will come after at 10 p.m.. In the movie, evoking lights causes the Man of Light character to ponder on it, on its spirit, and on its various expressions in settings and memories.
The international short films “Fairplay” by Zoel Aeschbacher (Switzerland/France), “Safe as Houses” by Mia Mullarkey (Ireland), “The sweet taste of freedom” by Matthew Penn (USA), and “Spade K” by Junwei Han (China) will be shown at 4:30 p.m. The animated shorts “Beasts among us” by Natalia Durszewicz (Poland), “Demi-Gods” by Martin Gerigk (Germany), “Home of the heart” by Sarah Saidan (France), “Think something kind” by Caludius Gentinetta (Switzerland), and “Tempete moi t’aime” by Flore Montmory (France), and “We are not there tomorrow” by Olga Klyszewicz will all be shown at 6:30 p.m.
The RIFF Award ceremony will take place at Nuovo Cinema Aquila on Friday, November 25, at 8 p.m., and the festival’s closing out-of-competition film will be screened at 9:30 p.m. The extended family is the subject of “Troppa famiglia”, a Pierluigi Di Lallo film starring Ricky Memphis and set in a small Abruzzo village during the Covid-19 pandemic. The director will meet the public.
