FOUND FOOTAGE: the new frontier of independent cinema.

Found Footage is a known technique in the history of filmmaking, it dates back to the 1920s and describes a method of compiling films partly of footage which has not been created by the filmmaker and changing its meaning by placing it in a new context. It is mostly used in horror movies as we can see in films such as “The Blair Witch Project” and “Paranormal Activity”. While widely common in horror movies, Metraje Encontrado represents a technique only recently introduced in Spanish cinema as only a few directors have tested it so far; Dalì can surely be considered one of the pioneers of the genre. 2012 RIFF wants to introduce its audience to this innovative filmmaking experience through new productions and old films that had long been forgotten and can now be finally enjoyed thanks to new digital technologies that made it possible to bring back to life old film formats like Super 8, 16 mm and VHS. It’s a unique and effective way to show cinema through cinema.
