The four films being presented allow us to witness a demonstration of how music is used as a tool to bring us closer to the imagination of the films in recent Spanish cinema. The musical element allows to address the work of new directors in order to better understand the organization of their creative work. This is achieved with the idea that music is as an essential aspect for a new approach, an “auditory” approach to contemporary Spanish cinematography. The musicians play an important role for this cycle of projections, demonstrating how music adds complexity and articulates the overall visual representation of the film as well as the emotional structure of the characters.
Each of the films we offer has a different musical nuance based on the tone of the film, varying from “La Puerta Abierta” with its more familiar and traditional perspective, to “María (y Los Demás)”, a movie that seeks to highlight the female figure. Music represents spaces of freedom and fantasy. “Muerte en La Alcarria” describes instead a musical map for a geographic space carried by musicians who seem to be troublemakers, picaresque characters and ghosts from the past.
