From November 27th, Competition Films Will be On MYmovies.It! “Havel”, on Václav Havel, Playwright, dissident and Czech President, inaugurates the Focus on Czech Cinema. For International Docs: ”Opeka”, on a former argentine soccer player now missionary; “Women According To Men” on emancipation and salvation of Iranian women seen by Iranian men filmmakers

The program starts with the competition films on Friday 27th November at 4:20 pm with the first international documentary in competition: “Opeka” by Cam Cowan (USA), Italian premiere. Pedro Opeka turned down the opportunity to play professional football in his native Buenos Aires. Instead, he chose to become a missionary and live in one of the poorest countries in the world. He convinced destitute families living in Madagascar’s largest landfill that he could teach them how to build their own homes and, in the meantime, their dignity as well.

At 6:20 pm the documentary “Women According to Men” by Saeed Nouri (Iran), Italian premiere. A woman’s place, seen through the eyes of Iranian male filmmakers, from the 1932 debut of Iranian film production to the 1979 revolution. Patriarchal family, love and deception, unwanted pregnancies and abortions, marriages combined and polygamy are the background to the central themes of the film: education, emancipation and salvation of Iranian women, torn between tradition and modernity.

At 8:20 pm the focus dedicated to Czech cinema, organized in collaboration with the FAMU, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Rome and the Czech Film Center, will open with “Havel” by Slávek Horák (Czech Republic) Italian premiere. Film dedicated to the life of Václav Havel, eminent playwright, dissident and Czech president. The film, taking place between 1968 and 1989, traces the key moments of Havel’s commitment against the communist regime, the period of imprisonment and the struggle for human rights and for the affirmation of truth.

At 10:20 pm the Italian premiere “Everything That Could Have Been” by Trond Kvig Andreassen (Norway) closes the first day of documentaries. After years of touring, one of Norway’s biggest pop stars flees into solitude, trying to find joy in his music. In the tranquility of the Lofoten Islands, as life’s biggest questions start to emerge, he prepares to record his album in Los Angeles. A training film on expectations, escape and self-realization.

The festival day will begin at 6.00 pm with the masterclass by Valerio Bispuri entitled “Dentro una storia”, which is part of the special events of the festival

The work of the photojournalists today and the relationship they have with the stories they tell: the masterclass is for photography enthusiasts and those who want to compare themselves more closely with the work of the photojournalist. What does it mean to be a photojournalist today? How has the idea of photography changed in recent decades? How much does aesthetics prevail over the story of reality in contemporary reportage? How do you get deep into a story? These and other questions that Bispuri will try to an-swer. The masterclass will last two hours in which, in addition to the story by the author, photographs and small documentaries will be screened.
