This phase of the day is structured to ensure that the pitching session is as productive as possible for all participants. A selection of 8 to 10 candidates, chosen from the finalists of the RIFF screenplay competition, will pitch their projects (5 minutes per project) and engage with the guests on how to present an idea within today’s constantly evolving market landscape. This will be followed by an APIC session featuring producers and distributors providing feedback and useful advice for the candidates. To conclude, face-to-face meetings may be arranged between producers and the candidates whose projects generated the greatest interest.
The first step to make a film is to write a screenplay. This is a very particular type of writing because it originates as a literary form but it can only be enjoyed as a cinematic one. The text’s transformation into a screenplay is an art that requires strong creative and technical skills. In order to ensure an effective analysis and a sincere judgment, the works in competition for the “Screenplays” section were carefully selected by a special jury composed of screenwriters, producers and directors.
The idea of awarding this category comes from the recognition of the essential role that the screenplay plays in the process of making a film, as a basis on which to build the whole project.
