The directors of docs in competition will arrive at the RIFF – Rome Independent Film Festival on Tuesday, November 23rd. At 6.15 pm “A Family (Une Famille)” by Christian Carmosino Mereu (Italy, Burkina Faso). Missa, Adama, Nafissa and Irene are four young Africans studying at the Ouagadougou University, in Burkina Faso. They attend a Masters in Innovation and Rural Development. After a phase in the classroom, they undertake a field work that allows them to discover skills, values and daily difficulties of many farmers.
At 8.00 pm, will be staged in Italian preview “Fort Apache” by Ilaria Galanti & Simone Spampinato (Italy), which shows the construction and the set-up of “Famiglia”, the last show of the Fort Apache company, the only Italian reality made up of former prisoners. Through the play, the actors deal with their own life and their past. And thanks to the success of Marcello Fonte at Cannes 2018, the members of the company will have their chance to show the world they are professional actors.
At 6.15 pm, “Everything at Once (Paco & Manolo’s gaze)” by Alberto Fuguet (Chile / Spain) will be screened in Italian preview. The film is an essay film about a peculiar couple of artists: they are Paco & Manolo, Catalan photographers from the outskirts of Barcelona who work and live together for three decades now. They blend individual gazes and imagery to make them those of a single photographer.
At 10.00 pm, “Mía & Moi” by Borja de la Vega (Spain), present at the Festival, will close the day for feature films. After losing their mother, Mía and Moi, sister and brother, take refuge in the family home in the countryside, a shabby place, almost in the middle of nowhere. With them, Biel, Moi’s boyfriend. Together, the three try to overcome their wounds; especially Moi, recovering from a severe nervous breakdown.
November 23rd is also Pitch Day. At 5.00 pm, at the Goffredo Mameli Library there will be “The eye of cinema”, a pitching between producers, distributors and young talents. The focus on pitching is intended to be a moment of discussion on how to present a project to the international film industry. The finalists of the RIFF screenwriting competition and the production and distribution companies will also participate in this meeting, open to the public. Among the prizes of this 20th edition there wll be the SIAE Prize for the best screenplay for short film: the Italian Society of Authors and Publishers offers a scholarship of € 2,500.00 for the development of the winning project.
