During the masterclass we will try to illustrate, with video clips made in the last ten years (revolutions, conflicts, human rights, environmental crises, investigations), the work in the field useful for the construction of a reportage. We will focus on the steps that allow the construction of a story beyond the single news, which for freelancers is increasingly difficult to make profitable: how to start research and get your hands on editing for a long-term story to be developed for international publishers? In the last ten years, the work has changed a lot, the possibilities in some aspects have narrowed, in others increased. We will watch together some trailers of documentaries made in the last 2-3 seasons, to tell you what is behind it and how it then came to the final result. In my journey as a reporter I then felt the need to bring some of the experiences accumulated over the years into a fictional story. However, directing a live reportage is very different from that on a set for a fiction film. We will analyze these aspects, looking together at the short film “Lost Heroes”, with which I wanted to narrate the conflict (armed and spiritual) of a young fascist in Ethiopia, where he will discover the value of resistance.
