“Il Giro dell’Horror” was created in 2019 to rediscover and tell the Italian Cinema and Horror Culture in a way accurate but very personal.
“Il Giro dell’Horror” is a serial format that offers to take part in a journey that investigates the world of Italian horror culture: from independent cinema productions to the mainstream, from literature to comics.
But that’s not enough, because “Il Giro dell’Horror” alternates at the normal structure of a documentary, with interviews and repertoire video or photo, fictional scenes starring the staff of filmmakers authors of the project [Luca Ruocco, creator and screenwriter; Paolo Gaudio, director; Francesco Abonante, executive producer] and episode guests… A fiction told in comedy, including important moments of animation and puppet! Because you can also laugh at horror and because these meta-filmic digressions it will be possible to create a horizontal narrative line that will unite all the episodes and, even more, because thanks to this unusual way it will be possible to discover the personality of the guests protagonists of the episode.
The exciting journey of discovery of the Horror Culture made in Italy is based on the mechanism of the “challenges”, very used on social media and on web.
After starting with the independent director Domiziano Cristopharo – the first and only guest to have been chosen by the three filmmakers who produce the docu-series – the transition to the guest of episode # 02 start from the nomination of the first protagonist and brings “Il Giro dell’Horror” to meet [and crash with] the maestro Fabio Frizzi, author and composer of soundtracks that have entered the History of Cinema.
Frizzi, in his career, had the opportunity to work with many great directors [from Lamberto Bava to Sergio Martino]. But – what is even more important for “Il Giro” – Frizzi is closely linked to that of the “Terrorist of Genres” Lucio Fulci, director for whom he composed the soundtracks of horror films that have become international masterpiece of the darkest cinema. Starting from “Zombie Flesh Eaters” up to “Nightmare concert”, the journey of Luca Ruocco and his collaborators will tell one of the most important moments for horror film production made in Italy.
