Born in New York in the 1970s, Hip Hop spread worldwide, becoming a global cultural phenomenon. In the early 1980s it took root in France and then also reached Rome, where a small community of enthusiasts laid its foundations and took part at this “r-evolution”. In the city’s streets, clubs, and squares they embraced its four core values – peace, unity, love, and having fun – expressed through DJing, Rap, Graffiti, and Breakdance.
It was a revolution made not with weapons but by an united and composed community, made up of a united community of people from alls background, languages and countries of origin, where music was the common thread. People belonging to the world of African diplomacy or students from various foreign schools, left a strong mark organizing the first “black” parties to unite members of different languages living in Rome, as well as social centers did through the power of music.
It was the beginning of a cultural revolution that made Rome more inclusive and multicultural.
