A group of space explorers leave Earth in search of freedom and happiness. Landing on an unknown planet, they begin building a new civilization. This is the legendary science-fiction film by late Andrzej Żulawski one of the most controversial Polish directors, hailed as iconoclast, provocateur and visionary. Blocked by communist censorship by the end of shooting, it was completed in 1988 with the inclusion of the director’s voice-over comments in place of the missing scenes. Premiered at the Cannes Festival in 1988, it received a standing ovation. The film has been restored in 2017.
