“Yellow Age” is a social allegory disguised as science fiction. The core of the short film isn’t about showcasing the power of extraterrestrial forces, but rather about using a “high concept” design to focus the microscope on humanity’s own weaknesses. The film cleverly employs the “art of misdirection” in screenwriting. In the first half, yellow is packaged as “hope” and redemption, breaking the deadlock and guiding the audience to conform to the cognitive inertia of genre films; but at the end, this hope becomes a cosmic visual metaphor. We conducted an extreme “color branding” experiment in audiovisual language: injecting highly saturated yellow into an absolute black and white world.
