The Jury 2022 - RIFF - Rome Independent Film Festival

JURY

This year, RIFF pays tribute to its spectators introducing the Audience Award. The audience, the recipient par excellence and essential pillar of the cinema, will judge the films in competition. Spectators will be called directly to express their opinion on a special sheet of paper delivered at the beginning of the film. The vote will affect the sections of Internationals Short Film. The initiative aims to make the experience in the room more interactive and engaging, allowing the authors to receive direct and immediate feedback.

Federico graduated in Scenography at the Florence Academy of Fine Arts, and later in 2005 in Film Photography at CSC – the Experimental Centre of Cinematography in Rome with the Master Giuseppe Rotunno ASC – AIC. He collaborated with Francesco Amato in “Ma che ci faccio qui”, and in “Cosimo e Nicole”. He also collaborated with Marco Bocci in “A Tor Bella Monaca non piove mai” and in “La Caccia”; with Fausto Brizzi in “Bla Bla Baby” and “Da Grandi”; with Roan Johnson in “Monterossi” and “I Delitti del Barlume 9”; with Paolo Sassanelli in “Due piccoli Italiani”; with Cosimo Terlizzi in “Dei”; with Alessandro Giglio in “Black Phartenope”; with Piero Messina, Ciro D’Emilio, and Stefano Lorenzi in “L’ora – Inchiostro contro piombo”. He edited the video photography for Music Video for many artists such as Fedez, Carmen Consoli, Litfiba, Rovazzi, Elodie, Giusy Ferreri, Baby K, Noyz Narcos, Cesare Cremonini, Max Pezzali, Clementino, Niccolò Fabi and more. Moreover, he edited the video photography for many documentaries such as “Paolo Conte – Via con me” by Giorgio Verdelli, “Alida” and “Sciuscià 70” by Mimmo Verdesca, “Sull’orlo della gloria” and “Transatlantico REX – nave 296” by Maurizio Sciarra, and “Diec” by Thomas Turolo. In 2014 he presents “Intime/offtime” at the Academy of Hungary in Rome: a personal photo exhibition in black and white which encompasses 20 years of work.

Adriana is a producer, line producer, and manager of the film production company Noeltan. She has been handling production, development, distribution, and film promotion for over 15 years. Her inclination – which is essential to her career – focuses on border movies that describe territories and realities. Over the years, she has worked and collaborated with national and international renowned artists of the Cinema del Reale such as Michelangelo Frammartino, Babak Payami, Artur Aristakisyan, and more. She artistically conceived and produced the futuristic project MaTerre VR Experience, Cinema Futuro Remoto for Rete Basilicata – of which she is also Vice-President – and for the Foundation Matera Basilicata 2019. It is a five episodes collective movie in 360-degree virtual reality which became one of the most innovative projects of Matera European Capital of Culture 2019. Since 2021 she has been the organizational director of Potenza Film Festival and member of the Executive of Doc/it – Italian Assosiation of Documentarists.

Domenico was born in 1967 in Scordia in the province of Catania. He is usually selected for his character actor abilities and also renowned for playing Vito in “I cento passi”. Besides he played a role in “La meglio gioventù” and in the mini-series “Il capo dei capi” where he performs Giovanni Brusca. In 2008 he performs Balduccio Di Maggio in “Il divo” by Paolo Sorrentino, and in 2013 Leoluca Bagarella in “La mafia uccide solo d’estate” by Pif, getting in the top-five for the David of Donatello as performer of the original song “Tosami Lady”: a dialectal performance of “Easy Lady” by Ivana Spagna, which is the end credits of the film. In 2021 he performs Piccionello in the TV series “Màkari”, based on Gaetano Savatteri’s novel, getting back into acting with Claudio Gioè, with whom he had already collaborated in several movies and fiction like “Il capo dei capi”.

Lorenzo was born in Rome in 1961 and in the early ‘80s he studies at Bottega Teatrale, the theatre school of Florence managed by Vittorio Gassman and Giorgio Albertazzi. He worked for the theatre, cinema and television, in more than 50 pieces, playing for many directors. Among them Nanni Moretti, Paolo Virzì, Paolo Sorrentino, Daniele Vicari, Matteo Rovere, Sidney Sibilia. Marco Tullio Giordana, Marco Bellocchio, Lucio Pellegrini, and Terrence Malick. Besides, he is a theatre director: his latest work is “La notte poco prima delle foreste” by Koltes and starred by Pierfrancesco Favino. In 2004 he won the Gran Giallo Città di Cattolica Award with the story “Matteo 19, 14. Lasciate che i bambini vengano a me”. His literary debut is in 2022 with “Lettere agli amanti” edited by Giulio Perrone Editore. He is currently the art director of the Academy Stap Brancaccio, school of acting, dramaturgy and directing, managed by Teatro Brancaccio and the Brancaccio Musical Academy.

After his studies of acting, dance and singing, in 1992 he graduated at the Theatre School of the National Institute of Ancient Drama of Syracuse managed by Giusto Monaco. He has been working mainly for the theatre, for example in “Edipo re” directed by Giancarlo Sepe, “L’agnello del povero” by Franco Però, and “Antigone” by Patrice Kerbradt. In the Greek Theatre of Syracuse he played the role of Corifec in “Il Ciclope” by Giancarlo Sammartano and later, in 2005, he appeared on television with a minor role in the TV series “Il Commissario Montalbano” directed by Alberto Sironi. From 2004 to 2008, year in which he performs and directs “Le mille bolle blu” written by Salvatore Rizzo, Filippo collaborated with Vincenzo Pirrotta in “U Ciclopu”, “La sagra del signore della nave”, “Filottete” and “La ballata delle ballate”. Furthermore, his performance in “Le mille bolle blu”, in 2010 will be worth, among others, the Theatre Critics’ Award. The performace went on stage at the Palermo Teatro Festival in 2009 Edition of Taormina Arte and at the Orestiadi of Gibellina. In 2013 he made his debut in dance theatre performing Don José in “Carmen Duo” by Giovanna Velardi. He also made his screen debut in 2006 performing Don Ercole in “Nuovomondo” by Emanuele Crialese, and more collaborations will follow with him and with different directors such as Andrea Porporati, Roberto Andò, Pasquale Scimenca, and Sabina Guzzanti. In 2012 he was chosen by the sicilian directorial duo Fabio Grassadonia and Antonio Piazza in their first film “Salvo” and, in 2016 he worked in the film “Sicilian Ghost Story”, mainly handling the training of the youngest actors. “La fille du regiment”, directed by Filippo Crivelli, is one of his latest stage works, and was produced by Teatro Massimo of Palermo and by Teatro alla Scala of Milan. Here he perfoms en travesti the role of the Duchess Krachentrorp.

Ilaria is the Supervising Producer of the Apartment Productions and is involved in many projects for responsability in research and for management of financial resources roles, mainly for international co-productions. She had been the Executive Producer of Lotus Productions for 5 years, engaged in various projects such as “A casa tutti bene” and “Gli anni più belli” by Gabriele Muccino, “Supereroi” and “The Place” by Paolo Genovese, and “Per tutta la vita” by Paolo Costella. She has been working for the film industry for over 20 years and masters an in-depth knowledge in all fields of film production, from how a set is organized to the institutional relations with broadcasters, platforms and OTT.

Nadia was born in 1981 in Kiev, Ucraina. She is a film critic and journalist, member of FIPRESCI, screenwriter, interpreter, and she is also a professor of cinema at the university. She had coordinated for many years the schedule for the Kiev IFF Molodist and for the IFF Contact. In 2021 she got her PhD Degree at the Sapienza University of Rome. She finds her inspiration in Alfred Hitchcock’s and Billy Wilder’s movies, in tap dance, frothed coffee, football, travels, and her dog named Julie Andrews. She believes that studying cinema is a great pleasure and teach it is a true joy. Her favourite quote is: “Nobody’s perfect”.
