Sofia, November 7, 1952. A mock replica of the cruiser Aurora parades along the yellow cobblestones – a revolutionary symbol reduced to spectacle. In the shadow of the celebrations, Maria, the daughter of an industrialist condemned by the People\u2019s Court, survives as a prostitute in a decaying bourgeois hotel. Her lover is Axinia, an official sculptor of the regime who creates ideological monuments while living in fear. Italian communist journalist Marcello Conti arrives in Sofia to cover the celebrations and falls in love with Maria, refusing to accept that truth is indecent in this world. Standing between them is a powerful secret police officer – a failed singer and sexual predator, intoxicated by power. As monuments rise and people disappear, love becomes the most dangerous form of illegality. Escape is possible only through a greater lie: the mock Aurora, transformed into an absurd battering ram toward freedom.<\/p>\n\n
